Apache was raised on a large ranch bordering the Rio Grande and Big Bend Park, in Brewster County. He grew up working with some of the best cowboys and vaqueros in the country, and has spent his life as a cowboy, horseman, and rancher. He and his wife Joy, live in Bronte, Texas, and run a cow/calf operation on several ranches.
Apache has shared his stories at the Alpine Gathering since the very first event, and was the 2009 Heritage Award winner. He has also participated in the Arizona Cowboy Poet’s Gathering, and the Ruidoso, New Mexico Gathering. The National Cowboy Symposium in Lubbock awarded him the prestigious Working Cowboy award several years ago. (And yes, he has roped a mountain lion, a bear, and a lot of wild cattle.)
