Jim is a native Texan, a student of the West and a life-long devotee of all things cowboy. He has performed in honky-tonks and churches, schools and Irish pubs, around campfires and at high teas. His award-winning songwriting, guitar-picking and unique vocal style keeps him in demand as a performer on the Western music circuit.
The Academy of Western Artists named Jim the 2008 Male Western Vocalist of the Year; he received the New Mexico Music Award for Best Western Song of 2009; and the 2013 Western Writers of America Spur Award for Best Western Song. He has published three western novels, “Rustler’s Moon” (2009), “Colorado Moon” (named the 2011 Outstanding Western Book by the Western Music Association) and “Waning Moon” (2013).
His most recent CD, “Borrowed Time” (2012), has been heralded by many as his best work yet. He is working on a brand new CD and a brand new book, both of which he hopes will be available in time for the Gathering. Jim lives in Albuquerque, with his wife and two dogs, Jessie and Colter.
